The Blood Type Diet
by Dr. Melissa Bennett
I remember first hearing about the Blood Type Diet from a very nice Christian woman many years ago. Her name was Marilyn, and she and her husband were co-owners of a health food store. Marilyn and her husband had recommended the Blood Type Diet to all their customers to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
In traditional nutritional courses, the Blood Type Diet was not mentioned, or worse, was dismissed as a fad diet. Prior to meeting Marilyn, I had always thought that blood type was only prevalent for blood transfusions. I had never given thought of it as an avenue to healthy eating. I decided to further investigate the subject and ended up, like many of you, coming across the blood type book, “Eat Right For Your Type.” I immediately became fascinated with the concept.
The Blood Type Diet gains recognition It led to my attending a symposium in Tennessee the same year given by an avid follower of the Blood Type Diet. His name was Bob. Bob had gathered over 800 people who were ALSO following the Blood Type Diet. It was a unique event. People had traveled from all parts of the country to this small town to hear Bob speak about this revolutionary new approach. I thought it was funny that all the blood groups were sitting together in separate areas. Each section was divided between blood groups O, A, B, and AB. Bob had made food that was beneficial for all blood types, and it was delicious! We were all meeting each other, and everyone was sharing their personal journey with the Blood Type Diet. |
Bob shared his testimony about how he had suffered from Fibromyalgia for many years. When he was a young boy, he had also inhaled gas while trying to siphon gas out of a car. He said he was so miserable by the time he was in his 60’s that he basically didn’t want to live anymore. One day he visited a local library with his granddaughter and came across the book by Dr. D’Adamo, “Eat Right For Your Type.” 2 Bob realized at the age of 72 that he had nothing to lose. So he began following the program outlined in the book. Then he shared what happened next. He no longer suffered with Fibromyalgia and his asthma symptoms miraculously went away. He had such wonderful results that he started teaching at the local community college about the Blood Type Diet. He thought this was ironic since he was not well educated. But that didn’t stop him from sharing what he had found and what he felt had contributed to his wellness.
I left the symposium so excited to implement this program into my own practice, “The Olive Leaf.” I also wanted to really understand the scientific principles behind the diet before introducing it to my patients. I obtained a Masters Certification under the guidance of its creator, Dr. Peter D’Adamo. While doing so, I met other wonderful Naturopaths who were also on the same path. I was so inspired I began to share the program with my patients. I remember spending hours writing up programs based on their specific blood type with recommendations, and having their notebooks spiral bound so they could have access to my suggestions. I was not doing food allergy testing in my practice during those years, so the Blood Type Diet had become the ‘go to’ program to help my patients with nutrition. I started to see results very quickly!
One year later I received a call from CBS News. They wanted to interview me as a practitioner for the Blood Type Diet. To be honest, I was a little hesitant and nervous because I was not sure if it was going to be a positive or negative interview. The producer was very nice and I accepted her invitation.
As the news crew began showing up at my office to interview me, I was very excited yet still extremely nervous. I have to say, “God is always good and Always on time.” Unbeknownst to me, I had a patient who had taken ‘Before and After’ pictures of herself when she did the Blood Type Diet. She showed up as the crew was coming in and this turned out to be such a blessing! Cheryl had lost 57 pounds and she was off 11 prescription medications, all as a result of following the Blood Type Diet along with my supplement recommendations. The interview went phenomenally well. There is a copy of this interview on my website under TV appearances so others can see Cheryl’s fantastic results! |
Ten years later, I am still practicing the Blood Type Diet in my office. I have given several lectures on the subject, which you can find in your back office. This HealthBeat article provides a short overview of the different blood types. And hopefully this article can serve as a reference for you and your family.

I also recommend visiting the water purification link on my website. Once you change your water filtration, you no longer have to use bottled water or water that is not filtered properly. You will end up saving so much money by purchasing one of the filtration devices, and then benefit by adding your X20 sachet which alkalizes your water that infuses over 70 trace minerals into the filtered water. Xooma Products can be a natural complement to the Blood Type Diet.
The company also has under-the-sink filtration devices as well as countertop and refrigerator-based units which filter out fluoride/chlorine and other harmful chemicals in your water. They carry shower heads and bath balls which are great for children. Also remember regular filtration pitchers and refrigerator filters do not eliminate smaller molecules such as fluoride. They only filter larger molecules such as chlorine, so the water tastes better but can still contain chemicals.
