This morning I was to meet a friend for breakfast, but to stave off the early morning low blood sugar foggies, I thought I would make a quick smoothie. And it would get my serving of greens in. I knew that in my refrigerator I had something green from my CSA box. Being early and in a hurry I didn’t think about what those greens were. I am rather indiscriminate in adding greens to my morning smoothie; anything will do. Kale, lettuce, collards or chard. If it’s green it goes in the blender.
So into the blender went my protein powder, organic cocoa, cinnamon and ground ginger. And the green stuff. I knew it was mustard greens, but I didn’t think about what that meant. I thought the whole bunch might be a bit much, but I wanted to use it up. Just didn’t think about what that might mean in the final product.
Now if you like the flavor of Wasabi first thing in the morning this would be an ideal recipe. Hot doesn’t even begin to describe the intensity. More like clean out your sinuses all the way to your toes burn the back of your throat and take your breath away hot! Ice cubes couldn’t begin to dampen the fire!
I got my greens. I’m sure the health benefits were significant. I’m thinking I’ll call the recipe DragonFire Smoothie!
